What’s the difference between hair reduction and permanent hair removal? Quite a lot, and it’s not necessarily what you think. VIDA only offers laser hair reduction, not removal, for a number of reasons. We are proud to be led by our Medical Director, Dr. Vida Talebi, who personally oversees all facets of our medical day spa. At VIDA, we only offer solutions that are proven, safe, effective, and in the best interest of our clients. Let’s take a look at the key differences between these two terms and why we exclusively offer laser hair reduction.
It’s important to know that there’s no laser that “permanently” removes unwanted hair forever. The only way to achieve this is through electrolysis. Electrolysis destroys individual hair follicles, but the process is very time-consuming and painful. It requires individually “zapping” every visible hair one by one. Most people have numerous hairs growing out of every follicle, so zapping them all can take several years. The hair needs to be long enough to be tweezed in order to use electrolysis, and hair grows in cycles.
Electrolysis is also very painful, particularly in commonly desired areas like the legs and parts of the face. Due to the cost for the client associated with electrolysis, the pain, and the fact that it takes years to get the results you want, it doesn’t fit with VIDA’s commitment to providing clients with the best treatments and results.
So, What About Laser Hair Reduction?
Laser hair reduction is totally different! We use two different lasers, the Sciton Profile 1064nm and BBL (broadband light) to drastically reduce hair growth. These sessions are fast and relatively comfortable. For those with sensitive skin, cooling systems and numbing creams can be used to make treatments as painless as possible. You will require multiple sessions when opting for laser hair reduction because, again, hair does grow in cycles. On average, most clients require 3 – 6 sessions per treatment site to get the results they want. Compare this to dozens and sometimes hundreds of electrolysis sessions, and you’ll see why laser hair reduction is preferred.
Laser hair reduction also doesn’t demand individual “zapping” of each hair. We can cover large areas in short sessions. For instance, laser hair reduction for both legs takes less than 30 minutes on average. It’s best to space out sessions every four weeks per treatment site, and you will start seeing results within that timeframe.
Why Doesn’t Laser Hair Reduction Get Rid of All Hair?
Laser hair reduction doesn’t destroy hair follicles, but it can be quite aggressive. In fact, many people find that they can completely stop shaving after completing the recommended number of laser hair reduction sessions. Others only shave every few weeks. Laser hair reduction cannot stop all unwanted hair growth, but it can do quite a bit! Plus, every client is different and you might discover that laser hair reduction is just what you need to stop shaving for good.
You can get laser hair reduction anywhere on the body and face. Our estheticians are dedicated to ongoing training and have the skills necessary to make your appointments as comfortable as possible. Which laser you’re matched with will depend on your skin tone and hair color. We work with clients with all skin and hair colors and tones, so if you’ve been told before that you aren’t a good match for laser hair reduction schedule a complimentary consultation at VIDA! We have the technology and solutions for everyone interested in laser hair reduction.
