Diet and exercise can only do so much, which is why VIDA offers a variety of body contouring and sculpting procedures. Options like CoolSculpting, Ultherapy, CoolMini, and Kybella are all skyrocketing in demand as clients are opting for services that allow for total customization. These are all non-invasive or minimally-invasive procedures with little to no downtime that let you individualize results and target areas that diet and exercise alone cannot reach. CoolSculpting has been a leading treatment for body contouring for years, and the technology keeps advancing to treat more areas.

CoolSculpting works by targeting unwanted fat and freezing it away. The technology that founded CoolSculpting was discovered by accident in the 1970s when researchers noticed that children who had a penchant for Popsicles also had less fat in their face. When fat is exposed to external freezing temperatures of precise degrees, it is “killed.” This means those fat cells dissolve and are slowly absorbed and expelled by the body in the days/weeks following exposure. Once fat cells are frozen and “die,” they never return.

What to Know About CoolSculpting

Even though CoolSculpting “kills fat cells,” it’s not a weight loss treatment. Many clients might notice they have dropped a pound or two once all cycles are complete, but CoolSculpting is about contouring—not weight loss. The ideal client for CoolSculpting is at or near goal weight but struggling with problem areas that are not being addressed with a healthy diet and exercise regimen. Today, CoolSculpting can be used just about anywhere you might have pockets of fat, including below the chin.

CoolMini is one of the latest modalities for CoolSculpting technologies and is specially created for treating the submental (under-chin) area. Previously, this was not an option as the hand devices for CoolSculpting simply did not fit with this small area. The submental area is prone to storing fat, creating the look of a double chin even in clients who are otherwise quite slender and fit. However, CoolMini is just one option for treating the neck area.

Kybella for Double Chins

Kybells is a series of injectables exclusively designed to dissolve double chins. Instead of freezing away fat, it works by injecting a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid into the submental area. This acid is the body’s natural fat-buster. Like CoolSculpting and CoolMini, clients will require a series of sessions (usually 4 – 6, similar to CoolSculpting technology) for optimal outcomes. Kybella features a stamp-like device so that several injections are given at once. This shortens the appointment time, and most Kybella sessions require 30 minutes or less.

It is important to remember that once fat cells are destroyed, either via Kybella, CoolSculpting, or another means, they are gone for good. This is why Kybella takes a conservative approach when treating the under-chin area. Some amount of fat is good (everywhere in the body). Four weeks after each treatment, your provider will assess the area and determine how much Kybella to inject in the next round. Similar to Kybella, full results are seen about six months after the first treatment, but you will see improvements continue to unfold after each session.

Skin Tightening vs. Fat Contouring

Sometimes it is actually skin laxity rather than excess fat that needs to be addressed—or a combination of both. In years past, surgeries like a necklift or facelift were the only option for skin tightening. These procedures are effective, but come with all of the risks, downtime, recovery, and scarring associated with surgery. Today, options like Ultherapy are dubbed the facelift alternative and can tighten skin with no downtime, no incisions, and no surgical risks.

Ultherapy works via radiofrequency (RF) technology. This allows the provider to precisely target deep layers of tissue for maximum results. Ultherapy typically requires just one treatment session and results last for up to two years. It is a form of collagen induction therapy and is especially useful on the lower half of the face and the neck (though it can also be performed on other areas). Results are not immediate (similar to CoolSculpting and Kybella) since collagen takes time to form. However, you will start to see results just a few weeks after your treatment, with full results in 3 – 5 months.
